The Environment Ministry has reached an agreement with UN to Zaragoza is the Office of the International Decade for Action 'Water for Life', which takes place during the period 2006-2015. The agreement reached by the Secretariat General for Territory and Biodiversity, Ministry of Environment and the UN will establish headquarters Decade in the Aragonese capital, where the Expo will also take place 2008, whose theme is' Water and Sustainable Development '. The primary objective of the Decade is to promote efforts to fulfill international commitments on water supply and sanitation by 2015. Commitments include the Millennium Development Goals to halve the proportion of people without access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015. The Decade will also focus on encouraging countries to stop the unsustainable exploitation of water resources and develop an integrated resource management and efficiency plans, as agreed at the WSSD in Johannesburg ( South Africa). Generally speaking, the Decade provides a unique opportunity to join the efforts to date to protect, use and manage on a sustainable freshwater resources.
